Greenview Landscaping is a backyard remodeling company in Fort Worth, TX that handles the whole project: drainage, grading, patios, pergolas, outdoor kitchens, fire features, pool renovation, fencing, lighting and planting, built by our own crews under one plan. We are licensed and insured, BBB A+ accredited and have been renovating yards across Fort Worth and Tarrant County since 2016. If your backyard is a slab, a patch of struggling grass and a fence, we can turn it into the part of the house you use most. Call (817) 393-3144 or request an estimate online.

What Backyard Remodeling Means

A backyard remodel is a coordinated renovation of the outdoor space rather than a single add-on. Instead of pouring a patio this year, adding a pergola next year and then discovering the yard floods under both, a remodel starts with how the whole space should work: where you cook, where you sit, where the kids play, where water goes and what you see from the kitchen window.

In Fort Worth that planning has to account for clay soil and heavy seasonal rain. Texas A&M AgriLife’s Earth-Kind program notes that in clay, water spreads laterally before it penetrates deeply, and the National Weather Service puts the area’s normal annual rainfall at 37.01 inches. A remodel that ignores those two facts ends up with a beautiful patio sitting in a puddle.

Design and layout planning

Every remodel starts with a plan that maps zones (dining, lounging, cooking, play, planting), traffic paths and sight lines. We measure the yard, note sun and shade through the day and identify where water enters and leaves the lot. Our landscape design team produces the layout before anything is built.

Drainage and grading

Drainage goes in first. French drains, surface drains and downspout tie-ins are trenched before the patio base is set so no finished surface is cut later. Our drainage and irrigation page explains the systems we use.

Patios and hardscape

Paver, natural stone and concrete patios are the floor of the outdoor room. We build on compacted base with edge restraint so the surface stays level in clay. Walkways, steps, seat walls and retaining walls come from the same hardscaping crew.

Pergolas and shade structures

Fort Worth summers make shade the difference between a patio you use and one you look at. We build cedar and steel pergolas, attached and freestanding, sized to the patio they cover.

Outdoor kitchens and masonry

Grill islands, counters, bar seating and pizza ovens built with masonry that matches the house. We coordinate gas, electrical and plumbing rough-ins with licensed trades.

Fire pits and fire features

Wood-burning and gas fire pits, fire tables and fireplaces extend the season into the cooler months.

Swimming pool remodeling and poolscape

If the yard has an aging pool, the remodel usually includes it. Our swimming pool remodeling team handles resurfacing, tile, coping and deck replacement, and we integrate the pool deck with the new patio and planting. See our post on converting a basic pool into a multi-zone outdoor space.

Fencing and privacy

New fencing, privacy screens and planted buffers define the room and block views from neighboring two-story homes.

Planting, turf and lighting

Beds, trees, sod or artificial turf and low-voltage lighting finish the space. Plant selection follows Earth-Kind principles, which Texas A&M describes as a system built on water conservation and reduced fertilizer and pesticide use, so the new yard is not a watering burden.

Artificial turf and play areas

For families and pet owners, we install artificial turf in high-traffic zones that never hold up as grass, particularly shaded side yards and the strip between the patio and the fence. Turf goes over a drained, compacted base so it stays firm and dries quickly after rain.

Landscape lighting

Low-voltage path, step and accent lighting extends the usable hours of the new space and makes the yard visible from inside the house at night. Fixtures and wiring are planned during design so conduit goes in with the hardscape base rather than being retrofitted.

Signs Your Fort Worth Backyard Is Ready for a Remodel

• The patio is too small for the way you actually use it

• Water stands in the yard or against the house after rain

• There is no shade, so the space sits empty from June through September

• The pool deck is cracked, the plaster is rough or the tile is dated

• Grass will not grow in the shaded or wet sections

• The fence is leaning, rotting or too short for privacy

• You are planning to sell within a few years and want the outdoor space to show well

Remodel vs. Piecemeal Additions

Approach

What Usually Happens

Piecemeal additions over several years

Each element is built without regard to the others; drainage is discovered last; finished surfaces get cut for trenches; styles do not match

Coordinated backyard remodel

One plan, drainage first, materials chosen together, one crew responsible for the result; phases are possible but designed in advance

A remodel does not have to be built all at once. Many Fort Worth homeowners phase the work, but the plan is complete on day one so each phase fits the next.

Why Hire a Professional for a Backyard Remodel

• Drainage is engineered, not guessed. Fort Worth’s stormwater program reports that most local flooding happens outside FEMA floodplains, in ordinary neighborhoods where lot-level drainage falls short. A remodel is the moment to fix that.

• Base preparation is done right. Patios and walls that stay level in clay depend on compaction and edge restraint you cannot see once the surface is laid.

• Trades are coordinated. Gas, electrical, plumbing and pool work are sequenced so nothing is torn out twice.

• Permits are handled. Structures, pool work and some walls need approval, and the City of Fort Worth’s Permit Assist tool shows which permits a project needs. We confirm before scheduling.

Our Backyard Remodeling Process

  1. Consultation. We walk the yard with you, talk about how you want to use it and look at where water goes.
  2. Design. A layout with zones, materials and planting, plus a written estimate by phase.
  3. Permits and utility locate. Requirements confirmed and underground lines marked.
  4. Drainage and grading. Trenches, drains and base grading first.
  5. Hardscape and structures. Patios, walls, pergolas, kitchens and fire features.
  6. Pool work, if included. Coordinated with the deck and patio.
  7. Planting, turf and lighting. The finishing layer.
  8. Walkthrough. We review the finished space and explain care for plants, surfaces and drains.

Backyard Remodeling FAQs

How long does a backyard remodel take?

It depends on scope. A patio, pergola and planting project is typically a few weeks. Adding a pool renovation or outdoor kitchen extends the schedule. We give you a phase-by-phase timeline with the estimate.

Can we remodel in phases?

Yes. We design the full plan up front and build it in stages so each phase fits the next and nothing is torn out later.

Do you handle drainage as part of the remodel?

Always. Drainage is the first thing built. A remodel that skips it puts the new patio and plants at risk.

Do I need permits?

Pergolas, outdoor kitchens with gas or electric, pool work and some retaining walls typically do. We confirm requirements with the City of Fort Worth or your city before work begins.

Can you include my pool?

Yes. Pool resurfacing, tile, coping and deck replacement are part of our remodeling work, and the deck is designed with the new patio.

What surfaces hold up best in Fort Worth clay?

Pavers and natural stone on a properly compacted base perform well because they flex slightly with soil movement. Poured concrete works too when it is reinforced and jointed correctly.

Will the new yard need a lot of water?

Not if it is designed that way. We use plants suited to the climate and design irrigation to apply water efficiently. Artificial turf is an option for high-use areas.

Do you work in Haltom City and Bedford?

Yes. Both are regular service areas, along with the rest of Tarrant County.

What is the best time of year to start?

Fall and winter are ideal for hardscape and structures, and plants establish well in cooler weather. Starting in fall means the yard is ready by spring.
