Why Homeowners Choose Greenview

4.8 out of 5 167 Google reviews

Greenview Landscaping provides landscape design in Fort Worth, TX for homeowners who want a yard that is planned before it is planted. Our designers map the property, plan drainage and irrigation, lay out beds, hardscape and outdoor living areas, and select plants that survive North Texas clay, summer heat and city watering schedules. We then build the design with our own crews. Greenview is licensed and insured, BBB A+ accredited and has been designing and installing landscapes across Fort Worth and Tarrant County since 2016. What Landscape Design Is (and Why Fort Worth Yards Need It)

Landscape design is the plan that decides where everything goes and why: which areas are turf, which are beds, where the patio sits relative to the house and the afternoon sun, how water moves across the lot and where it exits, and which plants can handle the spot they are given. Installation without a design is how yards end up with a shade plant in full sun, a patio that floods and a bed that needs replanting every spring.

Fort Worth adds constraints most regions do not have. The soil is expansive clay, which Texas A&M AgriLife’s Earth-Kind program notes causes water to spread laterally before it penetrates deeply. Rainfall averages 37.01 inches a year but arrives in bursts. And water supply is a regional concern: the Tarrant Regional Water District supplies more than 2.5 million people including Fort Worth, and the EPA’s WaterSense program reports that residential outdoor water use across the country runs to nearly 8 billion gallons a day, mostly for irrigation. A good Fort Worth design accounts for all three.

Our Landscape Design Services in Fort Worth

Site analysis and base plan

We measure the property, locate the house, utilities, trees, fences and existing hardscape, and record sun, shade, slope and drainage patterns through the day. This base plan is the foundation for every decision that follows.

Drainage and grading design

Water is designed first. French drains, surface drains, downspout routing and grading are planned so no bed or patio becomes a water trap. Our post on design decisions that create drainage problems covers the mistakes we design around. See also our French drain and drainage and irrigation services.

Hardscape and outdoor living layout

Patios, walkways, walls, pergolas, fire features and outdoor kitchens are placed in the plan for traffic flow, shade and views from inside the house. Our post on how hardscape placement should shape a design explains the sequence. Construction is handled by our hardscaping and outdoor living crews.

Planting design

Plants are chosen for the exact conditions of each bed: soil, sun, drainage, mature size and water needs. We lean on Earth-Kind principles, which Texas A&M describes as combining organic and traditional practices to reduce water, fertilizer and pesticide use, and on native and adapted species that handle heat without constant irrigation. Our post on native plants that survive Texas heat lists many of them.

Irrigation design

Zones are drawn to match plant water needs rather than the layout of the old sprinkler heads. Drip is used in beds, rotors and sprays in turf, and smart controllers where they fit. The EPA reports a WaterSense labeled controller can save an average home up to 15,000 gallons a year compared with a standard clock timer.

Lighting and seasonal design

Low-voltage lighting is placed in the plan to light paths, trees and the outdoor room. For homes that want seasonal color or holiday decor, we plan bed space and power access so those layers install cleanly later.

Front yard and curb appeal design

Front yards are designed for the view from the street: foundation plantings that will not outgrow the windows, a clear path to the door and turf reduced to what is actually seen and used.

Commercial landscape design

For business properties, HOAs and multifamily sites, we design for maintenance efficiency, code compliance and water budgets. See our commercial landscaping page.

Renovation design for existing landscapes

Not every project starts from bare dirt. For established Fort Worth yards, we inventory what is healthy, remove what has outgrown its spot or never thrived, correct the drainage and soil problems underneath, and design new beds and hardscape around the mature trees and features worth keeping. Renovation designs often cost less to install than a full teardown because the bones of the yard are reused.

Design for new construction

Builder-grade yards in Haslet, Aledo and north Fort Worth usually arrive as sod, two shrubs and a small slab. Designing before the first shovel goes in means drainage, sleeves for irrigation and lighting, and future patio footprints are all set at once, even if the planting is phased over a few seasons.

Signs You Need a Landscape Design, Not Just Plants

• You have replaced the same bed two or three times and it keeps failing

• The yard floods or holds water somewhere after every rain

• You are planning a patio, pool or pergola and want it to fit the rest of the yard

• The house is new and the yard is builder-grade sod and two shrubs

• Your water bill spikes every summer

• You want to phase the work over several years without redoing anything

Design-Build vs. Design Only

Approach

What It Means

Design only

You receive a plan and hire an installer separately. Works when you already have a contractor, but details can get lost between the two.

Design-build with Greenview

The team that drew the plan builds it. Drainage, hardscape, planting and irrigation are sequenced by the people who designed them, and one company is accountable for the result.

Why Hire a Professional Landscape Designer in Fort Worth

• Plant survival. The right plant in the right place is a design decision. Getting it wrong costs a replanting.

• Water handled once. Drainage designed at the start is far cheaper than a trench through a finished patio.

• Lower water use. Zoned irrigation and adapted plants keep the yard alive under Fort Worth’s watering schedule.

• Industry standards. The Texas Nursery and Landscape Association certifies landscape professionals in the state, and its Texas Certified Water Smart Professional program focuses specifically on responsible water use in Texas landscapes. Those are the standards we design to.

Our Landscape Design Process

  1. Consultation. We walk the property with you and talk about how you use the yard, what has failed and what you want.
  2. Site analysis. Measurements, sun and shade mapping, drainage observation, soil and existing plant review.
  3. Concept plan. Zones, hardscape footprint, bed lines and drainage routes for your review.
  4. Final design. Plant list, materials, irrigation zones, lighting and a phased estimate.
  5. Installation. Drainage first, then hardscape, then planting, irrigation and lighting.
  6. Establishment guidance. A watering and care plan for the first season.

Landscape Design FAQs

What does a landscape design include?

A scaled plan showing hardscape, beds, turf, drainage routes, irrigation zones and lighting, plus a plant list and a phased estimate for installation.

Do you build the design as well?

Yes. Greenview is a design-build company. The team that draws the plan installs it.

How long does the design phase take?

Typically a few weeks from the site visit to the final plan, depending on the size of the property and how many revisions you want.

Can the design be installed in phases?

Yes. Many clients build drainage and hardscape first and add planting and lighting later. The plan is complete from the start so each phase fits.

Do you design for water restrictions?

Yes. Plant selection and irrigation zoning are built around your city’s watering schedule so the landscape holds up under the schedule.

Do you use native plants?

Native and adapted plants are the backbone of most of our designs. They handle heat and clay with less water and fewer inputs.

Can you redesign an existing landscape?

Yes. Renovation designs keep what works, remove what does not and fix underlying drainage or soil problems before replanting.

Do you design front yards?

Yes. Front yard and curb appeal designs are a large part of our residential work.

Do you do commercial landscape design?

Yes. We design for business properties, HOAs and multifamily sites with maintenance and water budgets in mind.
